Vendemmia Italian Festival

Come celebrate the centuries old tradition of Italian grape harvest at Vendemmia da Vinci!

This fall festival is a block party, family reunion, Italian wine festival and homemade wine and gravy contest all wrapped into one fabulous day. Guests also sample food from 20 local restaurants and wines from all over the world.

Over 2,000 people attend this annual event, which is being held on Sunday, October 11th in Tubman Garrett Park along the Wilmington Riverfront.

Tomorrow is The Taste of Newark

This annual food-and-wine festival will fill the lawns of the University of Delaware's Old College area with tents, chefs, food and wine galore from noon to 3:00pm on Sunday, September 27th.

Dozens of restaurants in and near the city have registered to show off their best as guests roam from tent to tent. Each guest receives a commemorative wine glass and menu book containing the chefs' menus from the event.

New Exclusive Exhibit at Winterthur

View masterpieces portraying the men, women, and children of early America, from paintings by the first immigrant limners at work on these shores to the work of highly professionalized artists who worked in the country's major cities just before the Civil War. These stunning paintings depict not only people from a particular time and place, but they also reveal the values of the nation across a span of nearly 150 years.

Winterthur is the only venue for this select group of portraits from The Met, which represents many of the young country's great artists, including John Smibert, John Singleton Copley, Gilbert Stuart, and Samuel F. B. Morse.

Winterthur will offer guided gallery walks through the exhibition every Saturday and Sunday in September and October at 11:30 am, 1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm.

Victoria Wyeth, daughter of Nicholas Wyeth, guides public tours of works by her grandfather, Andrew Wyeth, and by her uncle, Jamie Wyeth.

The tours are free with regular museum admission and include a discussion of the artists' media, techniques, subject matter, and use of models.

Tours take place at 2:00 & 3:00pm Monday through Saturday. (There are no tours scheduled on September 18, 18, 25 and 26.)

Art on the Town

The Delaware Art Museum joins other cultural institutions in Wilmington to offer extended hours and free admission on the first Friday of the month. (This month's event will take place on Friday, September 11th, due to the Labor Day holiday.)

At 6:00 p.m., curator Heather Campbell Coyle will lead a tour of Exposed! -- Revealing Sources in Contemporary Art.

And from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., participants in the Luminaria Labyrinth Walk will use origami paper to create Peace Doves in honor of 9/11.

Hagley Classic Car Show

Hundreds of cars provide a comprehensive showcase of America's automotive heritage.

This annual event takes place on Sunday, Setpember 20th from 10:00am - 4:00pm on the historic grounds of the Hagley Museum & Library. Day of show admission is $10 per adult, $5 for children 6-14. Discount tickets can be purchased in advance from Hagley's website (www.hagley.org).
